“Wait and see” – on caring for patients with diabetic macular oedema
“When patients present with Diabetic Eye Disease (DED) at our ophthalmology practices, they are expected to fit with our existing processes, approaches and assumptions. Not all of them do – and their consequent high rates of non-adherence should surprise none of us.”
This talk will argue that patients with DED have a lot to teach us about our implicit biases as healthcare professionals. Their complex care needs shine a spotlight on our patient-centred healthcare rhetoric, as well as our commitment to caring for the person behind the eye disease or chronic condition.
